  • Spring training is the name of the MLB exhibition season that takes place in Florida and Arizona. Teams are split among the 2 states and generally play all their exhibition games between teams in the same state. The division of teams has nothing to do with their league.
  • The season is ~30 games, begins in early March and lasts until early April.
  • The purpose of Spring Training is to prepare players for the Major League regular season and to give teams a chance to see their players and prospects up close for evaluation purposes.
  • A team's win-loss record is generally ignored since a team's primary goal is not necessarily victory. The primary goal is to let Major Leaguers get their work in and to evaluate minor leaguers in different situations. Pitchers may use the games to work on new pitches or try to improve on existing pitches.
