Spencer was the Central Baseball League’s Rookie of the Year in 2005 after batting .313 with four homers and 47 runs batted in with Edinburg. He played in 90 games for the Roadrunners and had 24 doubles. He hit safely in 26 of 27 games from June 13-July 14. He was selected to the Central League’s All-Star team and was 1-for-3 in the game in Brockton, Mass. last July. Spencer played baseball at Navarro Junior College where he was named to the Texas Eastern Athletic Conference All-Conference teams in 2002 and ’03. He was the conference MVP in 2003. The next year, he transferred to the University of Texas where he spent the 2004 season with the Longhorns. He led the Texas Collegiate League with 12 homers and 41 RBI in the summer of 2004 and finished second with a .367 batting average for the Colleyville-Grapevine LoneStars. A native of Garland, Texas, Spencer was a three-time All-District selection at Rowlett High School and was the District 5A Offensive player of the year in 2001. He set a school record with home runs in four consecutive at bats in 2000.

Participated in 2007 College World Series Final-8 with Arizona State.
