 Trivia and Player Notes
Rogers is regarded as the best pitcher in Montreal Expos history based on longevity and performance. Rogers won 158 games in an Expos uniform, the only uniform he wore during his 13 year career.

Rogers didn't play high school baseball until his senior year and he didn't catch the eye of scouts until he was spotted pitching for an American Legion team in Missouri. When he was drafted in the 60th round by the Yankees in 1967, Rogers had this to say: ""I think my bonus would have been a bus ticket and an apple"". Rogers chose to attend the University of Tulsa where he would play baseball and earn an engineering degree.

Rogers broke into the majors in 1973 by winning 10 of his 17 stars, pitching 3 shutouts, 7 complete games with an ERA of 1.54. Hitters would catch up with him eventually as he would go on to lose 22 games in 1974 and 17 more in 1976 but starting in 1977, he had a winning record for the next 7 seasons, earning at least 12 wins in each. He was expected to tbe the franchise's first 20-game winner but despite playing on some good teams, he never managed to accomplish the milestone. Instead, it was Ross Grimsley in 1978.

He was instrumental in helping the Expos get to their first post-season in 1981 by helping the team get past the Phillies in the divisional series by pitching a shutout. He posted an ERA of 0.97 during the post-season that year but he will be remembered always for giving up a game-winning home run to dodgers outfielder Rick Monday in the top of the 9th inning. Rogers came on in relief of starting pitcher
He was also on the wrong end of another historical moment as he served up
Pete Rose's 3000th hit in 1978. His career ended after the 1985 season after arm trouble at the age of 35.

An active player rep throughout his career in Montreal, Rogers worked with the player's association after his career ended and was hired full-time in 1998 to act as a liasion between the association and its players.

Notes: Played in 5 all-star games during his career (1974,1978-1979,1982-1983)...Pitched 4 1-hitters during his career, 5 2-hitters and 8 3-hitters....Struck out more than 10 batters in a game 5 times (11 was the most)...Led the NL with 20 sacrifice hits in 1983 but was never a good hitter.
