Reichert was the Royals first round draft pick (7th overall) out of the University of the Pacific in the 1997 draft and he worked himself up to the major leagues by the time he was 23 when he made 8 starts for the Royals, coming out with an ERA over 9.

Like most first round picks, he had the raw talent to make it to the big leagues and in Reichert's case, he might have made it to the show only because of his first round label. General Managers like to promote their top picks.

Whatever the reason, Reichert made it to the Royals starting staff in 2000 and he spent the entire season on the roster, finishing with below average numbers and 18 wild pitches to lead the league. The knock on Reichert has never been his raw talent but instead, his command. His Major League walk rate per nine innings sat at 5.08 in the major leagues and at 4.5 in the minors making it very difficult to take a chance on him. Still, he has managed to get in 124 games as a pitcher in the majors with little success.

When he is on his game, he serves up ground ball after ground ball with his best pitch, a slider. When its not going well, he is just as susceptible to the home run as the next guy.

Reichert has become a major league journeyman after finally leaving the Royals in 2002 and has bounced around to a few organizations, finding some minor league success, but little at the major league level.

In 1998, Reichert was diagnosed with diabates.

Notes: Reichert's best game in the major leagues was when he shutout the Detroit Tigers 4-0 on July 21,2000. He struck out 7 and walked only 2...On September 7, 2000, Reichert pitched 8 shutout innings against the Yankees despite walking 9.
