| | Picked up as a free agent with Cincinnati Reds (signed by scout Kiki Hurtado) sent to farm team in Tampa after leading Los Angeles High Schools with a 782. batting average in his senior year of 1982 at Franklin High School. Heavily scouted in High School and thought to be drafted by Minnesota Twins scout Jerry Del Monte or longtime friend Kevin Malone, a young executive/ballplayer at the time.
Played with: TAMPA TARPONS then traded to the HOUSTON ASTROS farm team Cocoa Beach, FL in the Cesar Cedeno Blockbuster deal. Spent 4 years bouncing throughout the Astros system, before being called up to the Big team with all the rookies in 1986, Rich never saw any Major League action other than on the Astros bench. In 1987 the team released Rich due to Shoulder injury and he was picked up by Jim Levebvre in Scottsdale with the Giants. That lasted a while then Rich ended with other organizations over the next 10 years, the Cubs, Orioles and Brewers back in the Minors before hanging the spikes up. Credits baseball success to off season workouts to Frank White, Willie Wilson, Al Hrabosky, Joe Sambito, Gary Carter, Roy Hartsfield, Tom Kotchman, Jim Sundberg, Jim Hoff, Greg Pryor and Wally Moon. Rich is now a sportscaster in Las Vegas for 8 years now and is the official announcer for the University of Hawaii football team pre game show on ESPN radio. Rich has also announced over 100 championship fights in Boxing in Mexico, Las Vegas and California. Rich is also an actor in many films as well including "Lucky You" with Drew Barrymore and a Pirate extra in "Pirates of the Carribbean II" with Johnny Depp. |
