 Trivia and Player Notes
Despite being a top-notch hitter during his career, Olerud was known for wearing a batting helmet in the field as a precaution. He has suffered a brain aneurysm while in College. Olerud also was known for not playing a single game in the minor leagues until he was in his 30s, jumping directly from Washington State to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Olerud was released by Seattle in mid-2004 and caught on with the New York Yankees for their post-season run. At the end of the season, he had surgery to repair torn ligaments in his foot and on May 1, 2005, he signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox and he went on to play 87 games with them, batting .289.

He announced his retirement on December 6, 2005.

Notes: Member of the World Series Champion Toronto Blue Jays in 1992 and 1993....Played in 2 All-Star games during his career (1993, 2001)
