 Trivia and Player Notes
Once considered a top prospect for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Martin's place in history will be secured not by his five seasons with an OPS above 800, but because of two very bizarre stories which came to light in the later days of his career.
Just before the start of the 2000 season, Martin was arrested at the Padres spring training complex for bigamy. After missing some time for legal proceedings, he was dumped by the Padres to the Seattle Mariners.
Nearly a year later, it was discovered that, despite his rather vociferous claims of having been a member of the University of Southern California football team, he never once wore a Trojans' uniform off the baseball diamond.
His career ended quietly soon thereafter.
