Ladnier's playing career was ended in 1985 with a shoulder injury.

He joined the Braves as a scout in 1991 and was promoted to regional supervisor in 1994 and assistant director of scouting and player development in 1995. In 1996, he was promoted again to Director of Minor League Operations.

As a Major League Scout he covered Spring Training, the American and National League Central Divisions and assisted Braves General Manager John Schuerholz with special assignments. Throughout his tenure with the Braves he scouted the Winter Leagues including the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Mexico.

Ladnier was named the Royals Senior Director of Scouting on August 21, 2000.
