| | Greg graduated from Glasgow High School in 1999, where he went 25-4, in his 3 year career, for the Glasgow Reds American Legion baseball club. After High School, he was recruited by the Reds' rival coach Brent Diegle to play for the Dawson Community College Buccaneers. The Junior College ranks proved to be a great stepping-stone for Barnett, as he set school records for season and career win totals with 11 and 19, respectively. Barnett received Mon-Dak Conference MVP and All-Conference honors in his freshman season; and was once again named to the All-Conference Team in 2001, while being recognized as a Division III NJCAA First Team All-American after leading the team to their first Division III World Series berth in Batavia, NY. In his junior season, for the Dragons of Drexel University, Barnett went 5-5 as a conference starter, while tossing complete games against the cross-town rival Temple Owls, and Crimson of Harvard University. The southpaw then red-shirted his fourth season due to medical complications from a head injury, which turned out to be Drexel's final season of NCAA Baseball. For his senior year, Barnett moved to Omaha, to play for the University of Nebraska at Omaha Mavericks. He struggled to find the strike zone, where his ERA skyrocketed to 24.55 in seven appearances. |
