Tie-Breaker Games

  • If 2 or more teams are tied for one of the last playoff positions, a 1-game playoff is used to decide who qualifies for the playoffs.
  • Home field for the 1-game playoff is awarded to the team with the best record in head-to-head play.
  • 1962 and earlier (with the exception of 1948 are 3-game series.
  • Statistically speaking, the game counts as a regular season game. The results count towards the standings and player statistics.
