About Team Data

Overview

Major League Baseball: The first season of complete statistics for MLB is 1903 on The Baseball Cube. This includes batting, pitching and fielding statistics for all players for every team.

Minor Leagues: TBC began capturing complete minor league baseball seasons in 2002 for all affiliated minor league teams from the Gulf Coast Rookie league to AAA. The Independent leagues are not included as affiliated minor league teams. Only batting and pitching statistics are tallied for these seasons. Though there are minor league numbers for players prior to this season, none of the team statistics will be complete and only a partial picture will be given.

College Baseball: TBC has only been tracking college baseball statistics for over 280 teams since 2002. At this time, only Division I teams are available. You may also notice complete statistics for seasons prior to 2002 for several colleges and this is because we were able to obtain this information at the inception of this project but can only promise complete Division I stats (batting and pitching) from 2002 and up.

Organizational Rosters

This list is produced only for major league teams after 2002, which is the first season where TBC captured complete statistics for all minor league teams. Prior seasons are only partial and so there is no value of an Org list. The roster contains all players who played at least one game on either the major league team or any of its affiliates during the season. It is possible for a player to appear in several different team lists for a given season depending on the number of teams for which he played. This unique view of a team's minor league system is only available at The Baseball Cube.

Team Alumni and All-Time Rosters

Team alumni is simply an extract of all known players in our database who have played for the selected team for at least 1 regular season game at any point in time. For the MLB teams, this list should be complete going as far back as 1903 whereas for minor league or college teams, the list is usually a partial list.

Minor League teams have a complete list of players for those who played for them in 2002 or later and selected players beforehand. The selected players are almost players who were active in 2002 or later or have major league experience though just because a player has major league experience does not mean that he will have his minor league statistics listed.

College teams will display alumni from 2 different sides. The first is the raw list of players known to have played for the team as extracted from our database. This list can include unsigned players who never played a game of minor league baseball and played during a season for which we have captured stats for the selected college. So if you don't see your name on the list and you played for this college in the 80s, don't be surprised!

The second college alumni list includes a complete list of players drafted out of a selected college. This list includes only players who have the college listed as their school in the draft section. If Player A attended a junior college but was only drafted out of a University, then he will not appear in the list for the Junior College. To our knowledge, this is the most complete list of drafted college alumni on the net and will only go as far back as the first year of the draft, 1965.

College Data

I've only begun compiling college data since 2002 by navigating to each college web site and extracting what college stats were available for download. Several colleges have data from before 2002 and so this data has been included as well. The data is for Division I colleges only as it is just much too time-consuming to have to go through 1500+ colleges with Baseball in the United States. Though these colleges will have alumni pages, they won't have statistics or team records available. The earliest season of college data is 1980 and only Florida, Oklahoma and Clemson have statistics that range that far back.

The future may see Division II statistics added but its not clear as to when this will take effect.
