Independent Leagues

The Independent Baseball Leagues are unaffiliated professional leagues scattered throughout the US and Canada and of high enough calibre to be included on the site. The Indy Leagues are not connected to MLB teams and players are eligible to have their contract purchased by an MLB franchise if they perform well enough. The leagues are used by free agent former Major Leaguers as well as castoff minor leaguers looking to jump-start their careers and get back into affiliated baseball. The leagues can also be a landing ground for players who were overlooked in the draft or lower Division college players looking to get noticed. Another category could be players who just want to keep playing and are not ready to give up the game they love.

The history of the Indy Leagues likely go further back than 1993 but that's as far back as we go. I can't be certain that I have captured all leagues over time but certainly I have the major ones.

There is a player page for all Indy League Players and we have also tried to link them to their College Stats that are in the College Database. Team Summaries, coaches and batting/pitching statistics are also available for each of the Indy League teams.

The Indy Leagues are known for their wacky promotions and publicity stunts and so sometimes, unexpected players will appear in stats with a single plate appearance.
