Franchise History

TBC attempts to keep the continuity of a Major League Franchise, despite relocation or change of nickname. Unlike Minor League franchises where we change ID# when the team changes city (but not nickname). A franchise is an entity that is considered continuous over time unless it is dissolved, which has not happened since the early 1900s for MLB. Though there has been expansion and several relocations and some nickname changes, no franchise has disappeared.

TBC has made every attempt, through all pages and applications to show relocated franchises as a continuous entity. It is certainly possible that there is bad code and the 2005 Washington Nationals do not continue into the 2004 Montreal Expos... but it should ... so please let me know if this happens. At times, when using applications, you might not see the Montreal Expos listed as a franchise. Choosing the Washington Nationals will return the Expos as well. Similarly, choosing the Miami Marlins will also return the Florida Marlins and certainly choosing the Tampa Bay Rays will return the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
