Awards Voting

Every year, 4 major awards are announced by Major League Baseball for each of the 2 leagues. Most Valuable Player (MVP), Cy Young Award for best pitcher, Rookie of the Year and Manager of the Year. The voting takes place after the season but before the post-season. Post-season performance is not taken into account for the voting for these awards. The awards are voted on by the BBWAA (Baseball Writers Association of America) and results are released the week after the World Series is completed.

For the MVP award, select baseball writers will select their top 10 candidates for the award, ranked from 1 to 10 where first place gets 14 points, 2nd place gets 9 points, all the way down to 10th place getting 1 point. The Cy Young award voters select their top 5. Rookie of the Year voters and Manager of the Year voters select their top 3.

TBC has the voting by year including 1st place share and total voting points since 1911 for the Major Awards. The information will appear in various places on the site including the MLB Awards section, on player pages and on MLB Stats pages.
